Julia Georges Roth earned her MS in Cartography and Geographic Information Systems. She is a consultant who specializes in geovisualization maps and web cartography, a type of interactive mapping found in the digital edition of, for example, your favorite newspaper.
“Billions of data points are collected everyday,” Mrs. Roth explains, “I translate that information into graphical form to convey a bigger story, whether that is how people voted by zip code in the last election to predicting how far an oil spill will reach given water temperature, currents, and what direction the wind blows and how fast.”
Mrs. Roth is the founding member of The Cartography and Geographic Information Bowling League of the Greater Metropolitan Area.
“Get a bunch of GIS nerds in a pair of bowling shoes and watch out, that’s all I’m going to say,” laughs Mrs. Roth, “We have the best time and are surprisingly very competitive!”
With the holidays around the corner, Mrs. Roth is gearing up for League’s annual potluck.
“I’m famous for my Special Holiday Salad, which I will be making again this year,” she reveals.
Special Holiday Salad
Apple: 6 large
Celery: 4 stalks
Pineapple: 1 can
Marshmallows: ½ pound
Cottage Cheese: 1 small carton, large curd
Nuts: 1 cup, chopped
Whipping Cream: 1 cup
Seedless Grapes: optional
Sugar and vanilla to taste
Red and Lime Gelatin Dessert: 1 package each
Make up the gelatin dessert in advance, chill and cut into cubes. Dice the fruits, celery, marshmallows, and add the cottage cheese which has been drained. Whip the cream, add sugar and vanilla to taste, and pour over fruit mixture. Last add the nuts and diced gelatin, being careful not to break the cubes.
And by "famous" she must mean "infamous".
